Project-Based Learning: The Bluestem Institute, an Interdisciplinary Model

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
In 2015, three Ames High School teachers created the Bluestem Institute, an interdisciplinary, project-based learning experience for seniors. Bluestem students earn credits in English, Environmental Science, Government and Sociology, with the flexibility to transcend the traditional classroom and engage the community through regular field studies and project collaborations. As the capstone, Bluestem students explored their own role as civic leaders by completing a community impact project and becoming active participants in the production of their own knowledge. Join Ames board members and educators to learn how leaders can either empower or thwart classroom risk-taking and innovation, and hear about plans to continue and support project-based learning in Ames and across the nation.
