Research indicates that students who are engaged in school are more successful than students who are not involved/engaged. A pattern has emerged with the individuals who have committed violent acts in schools—they have often been the victims of bullying and, for a variety of reasons, are not actively engaged in the school community. This presentation will provide attendees with a process that can help school officials reduce the risk of violence by assessing the level of connection that students have with the school and take proactive steps to engage students who have been identified as not connected to the school.
